IOWA LAKES
STUDENTS NAMED TO 2007 IOWA COLLEGIATE ALL-STAR CONCERT BAND
Three students from Iowa Lakes Community
College have been selected to participate in the All-Star
Concert Band. Heidi Geiger, tenor sax; Phil Becker,
trumpet; and Michael Wilbur, euphonium, will participate in
the 14th Annual Iowa Collegiate All-Star Concert
Band.
The 105-piece band consists of musicians
from 17 Iowa community colleges, four-year colleges and
universities. The Collegiate All-Star Concert Band will
perform in C.Y. Stephen’s Auditorium at Iowa State
University on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 2:30 p.m. The concert is
in conjunction with the Iowa Music Educators Association
annual conference.
Heidi is a Criminal Justice/Law
Enforcement major from Akron; Phil is an Aviation major from
Storm Lake; and Michael Wilbur, from Ruthven, is seeking an
AA degree.
Dr. Andrew Boysen Jr., the conductor for
this year's ensemble is an Assistant Professor Director of
Bands at the University of New Hampshire. Dr. Boysen
conducts the wind symphony, teaches conducting, composition
and orchestration.
He maintains an active schedule as a
composer and has received several commissions. Dr. Boysen
has received numerous awards and recognitions for his works.
Several of his honors include winning the International Horn
Society Composition Contest in 2000, the University of Iowa
Honors Composition Prize in 1991 and a two-time winner of
the Claude T. Smith Memorial Band Composition Contest.
