IOWA LAKES HOLDS 17TH ANNUAL JAZZ FESTIVAL

Iowa Lakes Community College has announced the dates for its 17th Annual Jazz Festival. It will be held Nov. 12-14. The festival has been recognized to serve a valuable educational purpose and offer an enjoyable experience for the students of Iowa Lakes and members of the community.

“We are especially excited to announce our performing artists this year,” said Carol Ayres. “The guest artists will consist of Scott Hesse, a guitarist from Chicago, who will join the jazz trio of Joey Gulizia, a percussionist; Tony Gulizia, vocalist and keyboardist; and, Andy Hall, bassist.”

On Monday, Nov. 12, the guest artists will conduct workshops and rehearsals for the Iowa Lakes vocal and instrumental students.

Iowa Lakes will host the traditional school clinic on Tuesday, Nov. 13. The day will begin with a convocation at 9 a.m. in the gymnasium of the Iowa Lakes Estherville campus. This convocation, which is free and open to the public, will feature Scott Hesse and the jazz trio.

Clinics for high school and college students are scheduled to commence at 10 a.m. and continue all through the afternoon. The clinics are set to cover jazz improvisation, guitar, percussion and bass. The afternoon will conclude with a concert that will feature the guest jazz artists and the Iowa Lakes Community College Jazz Band and Vocal Jazz Ensemble.

An evening concert will be held in the Lauridsen Theatre at the Lakes Art Center in Okoboji at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children. For reserved seating call (712) 332-7029.

The festival will conclude with a convocation by the jazz artists in the gymnasium of the Emmetsburg campus at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 14. This convocation is open and free to the public.
