HOMECOMING PLANNED AT IOWA LAKES

Students at Iowa Lakes Community College will celebrate homecoming later this month. Throughout the week (Nov. 26-Dec.1) students will use the theme of “Bet on the Lakers – that’s how we roll.”

Homecoming organizers are encouraging the public, graduates of Iowa Lakes and area K-12 students to participate in basketball games and a coffee house.

The coffee house will start off the week on Monday, Nov. 26 at 7 p.m. at the Estherville Campus in the Max O. Pelzer Student Center. Vocal and instrumental students – as well as members of the public – will offer a variety of entertainment that evening. This event is free and open to the public. Those attending will be able to enjoy an ice cream social. Earlier in the day, a pep rally will be held at 12:30 p.m. in the Estherville Campus gymnasium. The public is welcome to attend.

The basketball games will be free to all area students (K through 12th grade). The first contest of the week will be a pair of games against Sioux Falls JV on Tuesday evening, Nov. 27. The Laker women start their game at 5:30 p.m. and the Laker men follow at 7:30 p.m.

That same evening, the Iowa Lakes Alumni and Friends Association will offer a “tailgate” meal of pizza, bars, pop and coffee for $5 per person. Serving will start at 5 p.m. and will continue while supplies last. At halftime of the men’s game, bingo will be sponsored by the Alumni and Friends group.

Throughout the evening, students may get their face painted (or receive a temporary tattoo) courtesy of the Iowa Lakes Biology club. In addition, the Iowa Lakes Bookstore will be selling Laker apparel.

Homecoming will wrap up on Saturday with a Laker men’s game starting at 1 p.m. versus Dordt JV. The Iowa Lakes Alumni and Friends Association will host a first-ever ‘Chili Feed’ from 11:30 a.m. until the start of the game at 1 p.m. There is no charge for Iowa Lakes Alumni or Alumni & Friends Association members for the Chili Feed. For the general public, a freewill offering is all that’s requested. At halftime, bingo will be sponsored by the Alumni and Friends group.

Activities for the college students during homecoming week include a hall decorating contest as well as trivia and college ‘spirit’ contests.

The college bookstores in Emmetsburg, Estherville and Spencer will offer discounts throughout the week on clothing.
