HARP PLAYER TO BE FEATURED AT MADRIGAL FEAST
This year’s
Madrigal Feast at Iowa Lakes Community College will include a
harpist.
Erin Hoiland will
be featured at the performances in early December.
Hoiland has been
playing the harp for six and a half years, and has formed her
own business, “Harp by Erin.” Besides playing for the Augustana
orchestra and band, Hoiland keeps busy playing at weddings,
funerals, special events, Christmas parties, nursing homes and
churches. She says that “her love for the harp grows more and
more each day she plays it.”
Hoiland will
travel to Iowa Lakes with a lever harp, which is about five and
a half feet tall. It is smaller than a pedal harp, but much
bigger than a lap harp. Erin is excited to be playing at the
feast.
“I get so much
joy and happiness being able to play such a beautiful and
elegant instrument,” said Hoiland. “Being able to share that
gift with others is truly a blessing.”
This will be the
Eighth Annual “Elizabethan Madrigal Feast” held by Iowa Lakes.
This year’s dates are Saturday, Dec. 8 and Sunday, Dec. 9 at
6:30 pm in the Estherville Campus Student Center (The Max).
A five-course
meal will be served, while entertainment is provided by the
Royal Iowa Lakes Chamber Singers and My Lady of the Lakers Hand
Bell Ringers.
Along with many
English customs such as the procession of the Boar’s Head, the
Jester, flaming pudding, and the strolling carolers, the evening
also includes wassail, and a special Royal Dessert. Renaissance
costumes will be worn by the performers, but are optional for
guests.
Ticket
reservations for the dinner and entertainment are $20, and can
be made by contacting Judy Klunder at 1-800-242-5106, ext. 7972,
or 712-362-7972. Reservations must be made by Nov. 30 by check
or credit card. There will be no refunds after this date.
“Don’t miss this
rare opportunity to hear a talented harp player,” said Brett
Fuelberth, Associate Professor of Vocal Music. “Renew your
Christmas spirit at the Elizabethan Madrigal Feast.”
