NURSING HOME WEEK PROMPTS IOWA LAKES COMMUNITY COLLEGE TO
THANK ADMINISTRATORS
Officials at Iowa
Lakes Community College are taking the opportunity to thank area
nursing home administrators during National Nursing Home week.
Over the years,
the long standing Health Care Administration Program has
educated hundreds of students to become nursing home
administrators. A key part to that education is an opportunity
to train under the tutelage of an experienced nursing home
administrator.
"This week gives
us a chance to thank our area nursing homes and preceptors who
have provided an excellent educational environment for our
future nursing home administrators," said Marlene Donovan,
Professor and Coordinator of the Health Care Administration
Program. "Without the help and support of the preceptors, the
program would not be possible."
Iowa Lakes has
offered the weekend Health Care Administration Program at the
Spencer Campus since 1971. Coursework takes four semesters – and
students can enter the program at any semester. New this fall
will be hybrid classes. This limits the amount of time spent in
the classroom and substitutes a portion of the classroom work to
online studies.
"We are excited
about offering hybrid classes for this program," said Donovan.
"Our students will get the same quality education. Classroom
time will be decreased and students will have the opportunity to
learn online.
They can even be
‘in class’ when they’re home."
Salaries in this
career continue to climb.
"Over the years,
the graduates have found outstanding employment opportunities
with excellent salaries in the range of $60,000 to $65,000,"
Donovan added.
Because the aging
population of Iowa continues to grow, the job outlook is
promising.
Individuals who
have excellent management skills and possess a passion for the
well being of the elderly will succeed in this job.
