IOWA LAKES FOUNDATION HOSTS 3rd ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP LUAU

For those dreaming of palm trees and sand beaches, an alternative might be to don tropical garb and participate in the 3rd Annual Scholarship Luau to benefit students from Dickinson County who attend Iowa Lakes Community College.

The Scholarship Luau will take place on Thursday, June 7, at 5:30 p.m. at the Barefoot Bar on Lake Okoboji featuring a meal by OakTree Bar-B-Que at 7 p.m., Big Nacho karaoke, silent auctions, contests (elect the Luau Princess), games and door prizes.  The first 250 people in attendance at the event receive a free gift.  Prizes will be awarded to those who are ‘best dressed’ in tropical theme attire. At 9 p.m. silent auctions will close and a winning raffle ticket will be drawn. Luau event tickets are $15 per person prior to the event or $20 at the door.  Event tickets may be purchased in advance (through Wednesday, June 6) at the Iowa Lakes Spirit Lake campus, Barefoot Bar or by calling Katie Elbert, Iowa Lakes Events Coordinator, at 800-242-5106 ext. 4425.  In case of inclement weather, the Luau will take place at Okoboji Boats.

Spirit Lake campus Dean Darin Moeller (and former Luau Princess) stated, "Last year almost $14,000 was raised by the Luau for student scholarships; this year we hope to even surpass this amount with the help of area residents and businesses.  All proceeds from this event help Dickinson County residents attend Iowa Lakes Community College."

Luau raffle tickets are $40 each or three for $100 and give the ticket purchaser a chance to win a seven-person Islander Spa hot tub partially donated by Bill Eich Construction, Spirit Lake (winner will be drawn at the event). Raffle tickets may be purchased in advance by calling Elbert at 800-242-5106 ext. 4425.  Raffle tickets will also be available for purchase the night of the event.
