GET ‘JAZZED’ AT SUMMER CAMP IN JUNE
The 27th Annual
Iowa Lakes Community College University of Okoboji Reggie Schive
Summer Jazz Camp will be held on the Estherville campus and in
surrounding communities June 17-21.
"We are talking
five fun filled, exciting and educationally packed days with
some of the finest jazz educators in the country," said Carol
Ayres, Professor and organizer of the camp.
‘The Headliners’
and staff of the University of Okoboji Summer Jazz Camp truly
believe in what they do and strive to teach and share with
students their years of knowledge and experience, she added.
‘The Headliners’
include Tony and Joey Gulizia, Roger Neumann, Andy Hall, Kirk
Garrison and Scott Hesse who are coming in from Los Angeles to
New York City.
Students (grades
7 through college) will have the opportunity to study in private
lessons, combos and big bands, improvisation, theory, and
software, as well as listen to their jazz mastery during master
classes and evening concerts.
Iowa Lakes
Community College Music Department in Estherville will be
hosting the main part of the camp. This location provides
students with air-conditioning in rehearsal rooms, dorm rooms
and the student center. The students' week-long study culminates
in two performances on Thursday.
There will be a
different concert four evenings featuring ‘The Headliners’
playing music from the Big Band sound to Contemporary, Latin to
Blues. Monday night’s concert (June 18) will be hosted by Little
Swan Lake Winery, Estherville; Tuesday night (June 19) is at
Lakes Art Center, Okoboji; Wednesday night (June 20) is at
Yesterday’s Restaurant, Arnolds Park; Thursday there are two
concerts on the Estherville Campus of Iowa Lakes Community
College. The first concert is the Campers’ Combo Concert
at 3:30 p.m. and the second is the Campers’ Big Band Concert at
6:30 p.m. There may be another concert by the ‘headliners’
that evening as well.
