LAKER MEN HAVE ‘GOOD DAY’ AT GOLF NATIONALS
The Iowa Lakes
Community College students playing in the National Junior
College Athletic Association’s Division II golf tournament in
Scottsboro, Ala., had their best score as a team in the four-day
tournament on Thursday.
The team shaved
12 strokes off the previous day, ending with a 309.
"We shot a lot
better today," said Coach Dan Soper.
Ross Froehlich,
Algona, led the Laker men with a 74; Andy Soper, Estherville,
shot a 76; Kyle Brandt, Spencer, had a 78; and Tom Thompson,
Emmetsburg, (whose family now resides in Kimball, S.D.) shot an
81.
"The big key was
the kids got off to a better start than they had the last two
days and that gave them a little confidence and carried them
through," said Coach Soper.
The weather was
great for golf Thursday. When the men started play just after 7
a.m., the temperature was in the low 60s with winds that varied
at times, according to Coach Soper.
Brandt is a
sophomore who changed majors to the Business program this year.
Froehlich, Soper and Thompson are freshmen who are taking
general Arts & Science courses.
Tee times for
Friday’s final round were not available at the time of the
