LANDSCAPE AND TURFGRASS PROGRAM FEATURED
AT IOWA LAKES BOARD MEETING
The Board of
Trustees of Iowa Lakes Community College had the opportunity to
learn more about the Landscape and Turfgrass program Tuesday
afternoon in Estherville.
The Trustees
heard from students and how they like their classes to start in
the summer, rather than the fall. This allows them to have their
education completed in time to take advantage of an abundance of
job opportunities in the spring. Instructor Kevin Fehr also
shared where the class has traveled on field trips and what lab
projects they have undertaken. He also distributed a packet of
seeds (promoting the program) to each of the Trustees.
Also during the
meeting, the Trustees approved job training agreements;
Accelerated Career Education (ACE) Agreements; and, supported
the establishment of an intercollegiate wrestling program (on
the Estherville campus) commencing with the 2008-2009 college
year.
In other
business, the Trustees gave the college President authorization
to sign Letters of Agreement with the University of Iowa
– one that will allow Iowa Lakes
students to complete a four-year
Bachelor of Applied Studies degree
with the U of I via distance education; and the other to promote
entrepreneurial education and economic development in Iowa
Lakes’ service area.
They also
approved the low bid of Christensen Construction of $268,800 for
the Regional Emergency Response Training Center (plus an upgrade
to the building that will extend the life of the facility for
$26,900) to be built on the Emmetsburg campus. In the same
motion, they approved a water main extension bid from ABC
Construction for the amount of $45,950.
And, the Trustees
set the date of April 17 for a public hearing on the Sustainable
Energy Education Center Phase I and II planned on the
Estherville Campus.
