FORMER IOWA LAKES STUDENT HONORED
AS TEACHER OF THE YEAR BY WAL-MART
A former Iowa
Lakes student has been honored as teacher of the year in Sioux
Falls S.D. Tonya McQuown Gullickson received the recognition
from Wal-Mart for her work with elementary students.
Gullickson works
at Hayward Elementary in Sioux Falls as an Early Childhood
Special Education teacher. Gullickson’s students are all three
to five-year-old autistic children.
As part of the
honor, Wal-Mart donated $1,000 to Hayward Elementary, along with
several other gifts including a $100 gift card for classroom
supplies. Gullickson plans to use the money to get supplies that
she was unable to get before, due to a decreased budget.
"I can get some
of the extra stuff I was putting off until next year," she said.
Gullickson
received her diploma in Child Care in July of 1993 and her
Associate in Science degree in Early Childcare Education in May
of 1994.
