BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEET IN SPENCER
The Board of
Trustees of Iowa Lakes Community College officially approved
salary increases for the 2007-2008 college year at a meeting
Tuesday afternoon in Spencer.
The Trustees
passed a motion which included a 5 percent total package
increase for fiscal year 08 for all employees. Also, faculty
members will receive additional equity compensation, plus an
additional state appropriation allowed by the 2007 Iowa
legislature.
The Iowa Lakes
Report featured Third Age College. "Third Age College" is a
French phrase used to signify productivity during retirement and
represents a trend in older adult education. The primary
mission of Third Age College is to address the intellectual and
educational needs of older adult learners at an economical
price. Iowa Lakes was one of the leaders in this effort,
according to Dr. Carl Klein, facilitator for Third Age College
classes. In addition to Dr. Klein, Vivian Herbster, Kella
Klinker-Simonin, Marion Kyle, Dr. Harry Rasdal and Doris Rubsam
talked about the variety of stimulating programs offered through
Third Age College.
The Trustees also
heard about a potential non-commercial Federal Communications
Commission license for a permanent radio station for the
broadcast program. They agreed to retain a law firm to pursue
application for the license.
They also
approved signing a confidentiality agreement with Lubrizol, a
company which makes gearbox and other lubricants for wind
turbines. The college would help perform research and
development and would be required to maintain confidentiality.
In other
business, the Trustees approved an increase in the current
mileage rate to 40-cents per mile for use of personal vehicle
beginning July 1. They also reviewed the Dormitory System Fund
Budget – which included actual results from FY 06, estimated
results for FY 07 and a budget for FY08.
The list of
graduates was officially presented to the Trustees, who then
approved it.
The next meeting
of the Board of Trustees is scheduled for Tuesday, July 17 in
Emmetsburg.
