IOWA LAKES STUDENTS PLACE IN TOP 10 AT NATIONAL SkillsUSA
CONTEST
Five students
from Iowa Lakes Community College have returned from the
National Skills USA competition held in Kansas City where more
than 5,000 students from across the nation tested their skills
in nearly 90 areas of competition.
Kevin Davis of
Storm Lake placed fourth in Marine Service Technology, Aaron
Oldenburg of Jackson, Minnesota placed fifth in Power Equipment
Technology, and Tom Geno-Stumme of Waukon placed sixth in
Motorcycle Service Technology. All three were competing in the
college division.
Justin Conner of
Algona and Steve Harrington of Woden competed as a team in
Television (Video) Production at the secondary level
representing Iowa Lakes and Algona High School, and placed
eighth.
SkillsUSA is a
national organization serving more than 285,000 high school,
college students and professional members who are enrolled in
technical, skilled and service occupations, including health
occupations. SkillsUSA promotes the free enterprise system and
community service. The group’s mission is based upon the premise
that the craftsperson and technician must have more than just
technical skills.
