ESTHERVILLE CAMPUS OF IOWA LAKES TO CLOSE FOR FUNERAL

The Estherville Campus of Iowa Lakes Community College will be closed Friday morning (Jan. 26) and no Estherville classes will be held that Friday morning so employees may attend the funeral of Linda Heldt.

This will also affect all TV classes originating from Estherville Friday morning.

The morning closing is out of respect to Heldt for her dedication and years of service to Iowa Lakes.  Offices on the Estherville Campus will re-open to the public at 1 p.m.

Heldt, the Office Assistant to Laker Athletics for more than 25 years, had been battling cancer.  She passed away Jan. 18.  The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Estherville Campus Relay for Life team to support the Emmet County Relay for Life.  Heldt served as the co-chair of the 'Laker Lifers' team. Individuals interested in donating to the Estherville Campus Relay for Life team in memory of Linda Heldt are asked to contact Linda Kautz, Enrollment Management Assistant, at (712) 362-7969.

While battling cancer, she often worked from home and traveled out to campus on numerous occasions.  She was committed to ensuring that the business of the athletics department got done on time.

Last spring, Heldt was selected as the Jim Hall Outstanding Alumnus award winner.  The award goes to an individual who exemplifies outstanding support for community, business, school, service clubs, etc - a generally good, overall representative of the college.

Heldt graduated from Iowa Lakes in 1981.  Through her years of service she gained the respect of not only the Iowa Lakes coaching staff but numerous officials, coaches and athletic departments across the region.

Besides her duties at Iowa Lakes, Heldt was active in volunteerism through the American Cancer Society as co-chair of the 'Laker Lifers' Relay for Life team. Through personal visits she would give hope and encouragement to cancer patients and their families. She was also involved in her church and other community activities.
