IOWA LAKES AWARDS YACKLE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Iowa Lakes Community College has awarded the 2006 – 2007 Deanne Yackle Memorial Scholarship to Malloree Lockwood of Swea City and Nathan Underberg of Livermore.

Diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis at age 2, Yackle lived her life as an example of strength and courage amidst chronic pain and physical struggles. Following her death, the family was able to have one of Yackle’s poems published as a children’s book. ‘Jenny and Me’ is the story of two eight-year-old girls who are friends in spite of their differences. Some of the proceeds of this book help fund this scholarship.

An eligible candidate for this scholarship must be enrolled part time or full time in the Human Services/Disability Studies program or may be enrolled in any Iowa Lakes program if the applicant has a documented disability themselves. Applicant must display financial need and use the award for tuition, books and/or fees.
