IOWA LAKES STUDENTS WORK AT RONALD McDONALD HOUSE IN DES MOINES
Student senate
members from the Emmetsburg campus of Iowa Lakes Community
College traveled to the state capitol recently, and while there,
they made a visit to the Des Moines Ronald McDonald House.
Students donated
their time to the house and also gave items they had collected
earlier in the college year. Work at the house included baking
and cleaning.
"Students also
gave the Ronald McDonald House canned food items as well as some
paper products," said Bill Lapczenski, director of auxiliary
services and student services facilitator. "They also donated
some of the quilts made by the Riverside Club of Graettinger as
well as the hats/mittens/scarves which were collected on the
Giving Tree from all students at the campus."
"The staff at the
Ronald McDonald House said they really appreciated what the
students had done," Lapczenski added.
Ronald McDonald
houses were established to better the lives of children and
their families around the world by creating, finding and
supporting programs that directly improve the health and
well-being of children. It’s an effort to provide a ‘home away
from home’ for families of seriously ill children receiving
treatment at nearby hospitals.
Students
participating in the activity included: Josh Lugar, Kayla Paltz
and Adam Benson of Cherokee; Adam Deppe, Prole; Rachael Pelzer
and Melissa Johnson of Emmetsburg; Joleen Sobotka, Laurens; and,
Jacey Johnson, Buffalo Center.
