ACADEMIC DECATHLON WINNERS ANNOUNCED

Students from four area high schools competed in the Area III Academic Decathlon in early February at the Emmetsburg Campus of Iowa Lakes Community College.

Teams competing included Southern Cal, Algona, Hull Western Christian and Spirit Lake.

Individuals participated in speech, interview, music, art, social science, math, economics and language arts. Thursday evening, the students participated in team competition of a "Super Quiz Relay."

Some 41 students competed and 30 adults assisted with the judging of the interview and speech contests.

Teams advancing to state competition will be Algona, Hull and Southern Cal.

Also during the competition, Trudy Kattner, dean of the Algona Campus of Iowa Lakes Community College, was notified that she received a Certificate of Honor in recognition of her Outstanding Service to the Students of Iowa. She has been a long-time co-organizer of the event.
