SPRING MUSICAL ANNOUNCED FOR IOWA LAKES

The spring musical for Iowa Lakes Community College has been announced.

In April of 2008, college students and members of surrounding communities will participate in “Once Upon A Mattress.”

“If you thought you knew the story of ‘The Princess and The Pea,’ you may be in for a walloping surprise,” said Carol Ayres, Professor of Instrumental Music at Iowa Lakes. “Did you know, for instance, the princess actually swam the moat to reach the prince? Or, in fact, it wasn't the pea at all that caused the princess a sleepless night?”

All of this will come to light in “Once Upon A Mattress.”

The performance is carried on a wave of wonderful songs, turns hilarious and raucous, romantic and melodic. This rollicking spin on the familiar classic of royal courtship and comeuppance provides for some side-splitting shenanigans.

“Chances are you’ll never look at fairy tales the same way again,” said Brett Fuelberth, Associate Professor of Vocal Music. “Please join us for auditions on February 3, 4, and 5, 2008, and make plans to attend our production on April 3, 4, and 5, 2008!”

More information on audition location and times will be released shortly after the first of the year.

“Once Upon A Mattress” has music by Mary Rodgers; lyrics by Marshall Barer; and book by Jay Thompson, Dean Fuller and Marshall Barer. “Once Upon A Mattress” is presented through special arrangement with R & H Theatricals, 1065 Avenue of The Americas, Suite 2400, New York, NY 10018. www.rnhtheatricals.com
