IOWA LAKES PROMOTES “SHOULD HAVE” SCHOLARSHIP
Iowa Lakes Community College is announcing the establishment of
the Signe Kim Lauridsen-Jones “Should Have” Scholarship.
Lauridsen-Jones, from the well-known philanthropic Lauridsen
family in the Iowa Great Lakes area, established this
scholarship with the specific intention of giving a student that
wasn’t able to attend college upon high school graduation the
chance to do so now. Lauridsen-Jones targeted the nursing field
due to a strong family tie to health care occupations – her
mother and grandmother were nurses and father was a physician.
“Mrs. Lauridsen-Jones recognizes higher education as the key to
a student’s future success,” stated Shan Ray, Iowa Lakes
Institutional Advancement Executive Director. She continued,
“Many nontraditional students once given the chance to complete
their degrees, remain Iowa residents and provide a much needed
work force in our state – many stay right here in our local
area.”
Eligible candidates for the “Should Have” Scholarship must be
nontraditional students (minimum 25 years of age) enrolled full
time in the Practical Nursing program (LPN) at Iowa Lakes
Community College. In addition, they must display financial
need as determined by the FAFSA form, reside in Spirit Lake and
use the award for tuition, books and/or fees. Deadline for this
scholarship is September 14, 2007.
Those interested in scholarships should contact Shan Ray, Iowa
Lakes Institutional Advancement Executive Director, at
712-362-0491 or 800-242-5106 ext. 4491.
