HELDT MEMORIAL LAKER GOLF OUTING BENEFITS STUDENT-ATHLETES

The Iowa Lakes Community College Foundation held the first ever Linda Heldt Memorial Laker Scholarship Golf Outing on July 7 at the Estherville Golf Course. Formerly known as the Laker Golf Outing, the name was changed in memory of Heldt, long-time Athletics Department Assistant, who lost a hard fought battle to cancer earlier this year.

Ninety golfers braved the heat to benefit student-athletes with scholarships to attend Iowa Lakes. After play, lunch was enjoyed by all and prizes were awarded. The Heldt Family was presented with a commemorative framed/matted flyer of the event depicting Linda Heldt’s picture. All golfers and staff had signed the mat in memory of Linda.

Flight winners included, flight 1: Dan Soper, Andy Soper, Pat Butler, Joel Newton; flight 2: Norma Beaver, Randy Beaver, George Shadle, Shirley Barrett; flight 3: Lori Milburn, Lynn Whitacre, Rich Studer, Todd McQuown. High score team of Molly O’Hara, Sonja Gjerde, Kris Moeller and Kristy Rigdon received "Drown Your Sorrows" beverage tickets.

Flag contest prizes went to Jennifer Hough hole 1 (longest drive in fairway-women); Scott Stokes hole 2 (longest putt-men); Joey Rigdon hole 3 (closest to pin); Todd McQuown hole 4 (shortest drive in fairway-men); Chris Lund hole 5 (closest drive to 100 yd marker); Dan Stokes hole 6 (closest to women’s tee box); Tim Brashear hole 7 (longest drive in fairway-men); Jennifer Hough hole 8 (longest putt-women); Heather Towell and Tim Brashear hole 9 (closest to pin-men & women.

"We are very grateful to our golfers, sponsors and donors for making this first ever golf outing in Linda’s name a great success," stated Iowa Lakes Athletics Director Troy Larson, "We were able to realize over $9,500 for student-athlete scholarships – Linda would have been very happy!"
