BANQUET HELD TO HONOR UPWARD BOUND STUDENTS
Over 50 students
were recognized at this year’s annual Upward Bound Summer
Banquet. The banquet was held in the Smith Wellness Center on
the Emmetsburg campus of Iowa Lakes Community College on July
17. Students were recognized for their dedication to academic
excellence and their desire to earn a college degree.
The students
displayed projects and assignments during the awards banquet for
their family and friends to view.
"These exhibits
show how creative our students are – both in their academics and
in their extracurricular classes," said Mary Faber, TRIO
Director. "It makes for a wonderful blending of their talents."
Awards were given
in the following categories:
Critical Thinking
instructor Lisa Oberg presented the class medal to Cody Baker of
Estherville. Honorable Mention certificates were presented to
Cara Clopton and Stephen Graham from Spencer; Randy Kenyon of
Whitemore and Katie Stewart of Estherville.
Instructor
Crystal Gabel-Beccard honored the following top English students:
English medal winner, Cody Baker of Estherville. Honorable
Mention Certificates were presented to: Caitlynn Rouse of
Spencer and Stephanie Ingalls from Bancroft.
Math instructor
Jeanette Frambach awarded the math medal to Katie Stewart from
Estherville. Honorable Mention certificates went to Cara Clopton,
Shayla Quail, Caitlynn Rouse and Emily Woodrow all of Spencer.
Jesse Alger of
Estherville received the Science medal from instructor Kris
Roeber. Certificate winners in Science included: Stephan Graham
of Spencer; Randy Kenyon of Whitemore; and Brook Simpson and
Kari Simpson of Burt.
Spanish
instructor Amy Maurer presented Caitlynn Rouse with the Spanish
class medal. Honorable Mention awards went Dustin Abbas of
Milford, Jordan Ahrenstorff from Wallingford and Cody Baker and
Natasha Zimmerman of Estherville.
Highest GPA for
the 2006-2007 year went to Cody Baker, Spencer, and Katie
Stewart, Estherville.
Most Improved GPA
for the year was also a tie between Briana Adams, Spencer; and
Allison Chihak, Burt.
Top Student
Plaque was given to Tessa Brandt, Titonka. Top student
certificates were presented to Kiley Rosendahl of Algona.
Top Bridge
Student Award went to Lance Scott of Spencer.
TRIO Scholarship
Award recipients must be accepted by Iowa Lakes Community
College and have participated for at least two years in one of
the TRIO programs. This year’s recipients are Joshua Link of
Milford and Lance Scott of Spencer both Upward Bound
Participants.
2006-2007 Upward
Bound Student Hall of Fame Inductees include: Joshua Link and
Michelle Lyster, Estherville; and Lance Scott, Spencer.
The following
individuals were inducted into the 2006-2007 Upward Bound Hall
of Fame for their outstanding support of the program:
Matt Diischer of
Denison working for, Upward Bound as a Tutor Counselor and
Residential Director for the past three years.
Amy Maurer of
Spencer, currently working for Upward Bound as Academic Year
Instructor and Summer Program Spanish Instructor.
Mary Moorman of
Estherville for academic year site instructor.
Tom Nelsen of
Estherville drives bus for Upward Bound during Saturday and
summer activities.
Mandy Rahm of
Humboldt has served as an Upward Bound Summer Tutor Counselor
for the past three years.
