LAKER FRESHMAN SETS RECORD
Freshman Cassie Hanson of Spirit Lake led Iowa
Lakes Community College to a good start to the
2005 season at the Dordt College cross country
meet on Friday. Hanson set a college record at
the 4K distance with a 17:25, breaking the old
record of 18:24 set by Molly Duitsman in 2003.
Hanson finished 13th in the 40 woman
field and was followed closely by freshman
Mackenzie Eggers in 14th place with a
time of 17:38.4, also well under the college
record.
Also competing for the Laker women were freshman
Juli Larson in 25th with a time of
19:20, sophomore Tara Wielenga 27th
in 19:37, sophomore Kacie Schmidt 33rd
in 20:16, and sophomore Alison Treanor 36th
in 21:12. The winning time came from Buena
Vista’s Paige Gruis in 15:52.9.
The day was also significant for the Laker women
as they scored as a team for the first time in
the three year history of the program. The meet
was won by Morningside with 31 points, followed
by Dordt with 48, Northwestern with 85, Buena
Vista with 96 and Iowa Lakes with 110.
Four men also competed for Iowa Lakes, but the
team was incomplete. Tim Eisenga of Dordt set
the pace posting a winning time of 21:30 on the
4 mile course. The Lakers were led by sophomore
Lance Queck in 15th with a time of
24:20. He was followed by Joshua Eaton in 19th
place in 24:42, Logan McDonald 34th
in 26:39, and Cody Mortenson in 38th
with a time of 31:01.
Both the men’s and women’s teams will be in
action on Sat., Sept. 10th at the
Luther Invitational in Decorah.
