ACTIVITY CENTER FEATURES DAILY “EXPERTS”
The Iowa Lakes Community College Activity Center
at the 2005 Clay County Fair will showcase a
wide variety of state-of the-art programs.
The Activity Center, located on the second floor
of the Agriculture Building, will be staffed by
program coordinators and students and will
feature hands-on (and they mean ‘hands-on’)
technology and educational advancements.
During the nine-day extravaganza, fairgoers are
encouraged to bring their questions to the
experts.
On Saturday, Sept. 10, the programs represented
will include: Wind Energy and Turbine
Technology, Medical Programming, Broadcast Media
and Massage Therapy. Fairgoers who stop by the
booth when Massage Therapy graduates are in
attendance from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., will have a
chance to receive a massage.
On Sunday, Sept. 11, programs include Sales and
Marketing Management, Information Technology,
Computers, Marine and Small Engine Repair, Web
Specialist and Massage Therapy (offering free
massages from noon until 4 p.m.).
Monday, Sept. 12, will be the day to bring
questions for Wind Energy, Landscape and
Turfgrass, Medical Programming and Business
Technology. Barb Grandstaff will talk about
questions individuals might have concerning
receiving a G-E-D. She will also be giving away
some scholarships.
Tuesday, Sept. 13, will find Farm Equipment and
Diesel Technology staffers on-hand. In addition,
instructors from the Criminal Justice, Aviation
and Nursing programs will be at the booth.
Parents who would like to have their children
fingerprinted by the Criminal Justice
participants may bring those youngsters to the
booth.
Wednesday, Sept. 14, the displays will be from
the Agriculture Business, Ag Production, Human
Services, ABE, GED and Wind Power.
Thursday, Sept 15, the college will have
Motorcycle Mechanics and Medical Programming
available to answer questions. Fairgoers will
also find the Environmental Studies program
represented as well as the Welding program.
Those who would like to have their water tested
(well water only) may bring a sample (in a
cleaned container) with them to the fair.
Friday, Sept. 16, will feature the college’s
Welding , Wind Energy and Turbine Technology and
Auto Technology programs. In addition, a variety
of programs available to high school students
will be featured.
Saturday, Sept. 17, the college will have the
Continuing Education program coordinator who
coordinates EMS and Fire and Rescue
recertifications available to answer questions
and provide information. Making a return
appearance will be graduates of the Massage
Therapy program who will be offering free
massages from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Individuals will
also be there to talk about the Iowa Lakes Web
site and the Paramedic Science program as well.
The last day of the fair, Sunday, Sept. 18, the
college will highlight the housing options
available to Iowa Lakes Community College
students and organizers hope to have Massage
Therapy graduates at the booth to again provide
free massages.
And, at the Swine Barn, children and adults
alike are invited to pet the baby pigs that will
be on display.
