IOWA LAKES STUDENT NAMED ‘ATHLETE OF THE
WEEK’
An Iowa Lakes Community College Cross Country
runner has been named ‘athlete of the week’ by
the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference.
The Female Cross Country Athlete of the Week is
Mackenzie Eggers.
After not running in her last competition due to
a quad strain, Eggers crushed the college record
time of 21:38 with a blistering 5K race at the
University of Sioux Falls Invitational. Her
previous best time was 23:05, but she defeated
that mark by coming in at the 20:24 mark.
The Estherville native ran for the Estherville
Lincoln Central Cross Country and Track programs
where she received honors as a member of the
2002 state qualifying team and the 2004 Lakes
Conference champion team. In track, she
qualified for state with five sprint relays in
her four seasons. Currently a Pre-Veterinary
Medicine major, Eggers plans to transfer to Iowa
State after Iowa Lakes to become a veterinarian.
This is the first year the Laker women have
fielded a full squad. They are ranked 20th in
the nation – up four spots from last week. The
squad travels to Briar Cliff Oct. 8 for their
next competition followed by regional
competition Oct. 22.
Cross country is open to both men and women at
Iowa Lakes Community College. To find out more
