IOWA LAKES CROSS COUNTRY SQUAD TO ADVANCE TO
NJCAA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
Nine Iowa Lakes Community College students will
travel to Lawrence, Kan., later this week to
compete in the National Junior College Athletic
Association Cross Country Championships.
This will be the third year Iowa Lakes students
have competed nationally.
“Our team is really pumped up for this and not
only because it’s the National Championships.
They feel like they have something to prove
after a disappointing performance at Regionals,”
said Mike Nichols, head cross country coach.
The women will compete in a 5K event while the
men will run an 8K course at Rim Rock Farm at
the University of Kansas, in Lawrence. The event
will be on Saturday starting at 9:30 a.m. for
the men with the women following at 10:30 a.m.
The weather is supposed to be in the 60s most of
this week in Kansas; however, at the time they
run, it will likely be in the 50s.
Female team members include: sophomores Kacie
Schmidt, Garner; Alison Treanor, Minnesota Lake,
Minn.; and, Tara Wielenga, Sheldon. Freshman
