COLLEGE RECEIVES AWARD AT CONFERENCE
Iowa Lakes Community College received an
advertising award at the Region 5 National
Conference for Marketing and Public Relation
professionals held in Wichita, Kan., earlier
this month.
The college was awarded a bronze (3rd place)
award for two, 30 second television
advertisements entered in the Television Ad
Series category. The ads, which were shot in
August of 2004, used ‘morphing’ technology in
which students were observed in their college
surroundings and then ‘morphed’ into a prize job
in the future. Students featured in the ad were
José Garza, Terril, advertising the Broadcasting
Program; Jason Nicol, Estherville, advocating
Computer Forensics; Dave Hiner, Pocahontas,
advancing the Hotel and Restaurant Management
Program; Carmel Boever, Swea City, promoting a
Surgical Technology career; Charles White,
Akron, Ohio, advertising the Wind Energy and
Turbine Technology; and, Seth Beenken, Bancroft,
publicizing the agricultural opportunities at
the college.
“We have used students in our recent commercials
because they are the best sales people a college
can have,” said Jane Campbell, Executive
Director of Marketing at Iowa Lakes Community
College. “We chose this theme based off of data
that indicates both students and parents want to
know what type of jobs students will get upon
graduation. As usual, our students did an
outstanding job.”
The TV ad was aired on KTIV-TV and KCAU-TV in
Sioux City; Lakes Television of Spirit Lake;
plus several area cable channels.
The commercials were shot and produced with
ME&V. The awards were announced at the Region 5
NCMPR convention which was attended by Angie
Rose, Marketing Assistant; and, Vanessa Fettes,
Marketing/Graphic Design Office Associate. The
Region 5 NCMPR includes over 55 community
colleges from seven Midwestern states.
