IOWA LAKES COMMUNITY COLLEGE AWARDS THE GENE
LEONARD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Iowa Lakes Community College has awarded the
2005 – 2006 Gene Leonard Memorial Scholarship.
Students from Iowa Lakes Community College
receiving scholarships are Brittney Currans,
Autumn Frederick, Gregory Garrels, Melissa
Hinners, Marc Riley, Josh Tonderum, and Andrew
Williams of Emmetsburg; Richele Blinkmann, Ross
Cody, Nicholas Erickson, Craig Fandel, Kayla
Helget, Aaron Lewis, Brett Lewis, Ian McDonald,
Derek Smith, Brad Tirevold, and Amanda Vagle of
Estherville; Erin McCain, Anne Olesen, Leslie
Peton, Shantel Peyton and Adam Simington of
Graettinger; and Joey Cother, Adam Kreutner and
Anthony Scott of Ruthven.
Students attending the University of Iowa
include: Kayla Cole, Matt Corley and Will McCann
of Emmetsburg; and Ashley Brown of Ruthven.

at Iowa State University; Eric Clouse and Travis
Suhr of Ruthven at Morningside College;
Nathaniel Garrels of Emmetsburg at the Rochester
Institute of Technology; Andrea Kinnetz of
Emmetsburg at Simpson University; and Michelle
Kuecker of Cylinder at Wartburg College.
The Gene Leonard Memorial Scholarship is funded
by a trust to provide financial assistance to
northwest Palo Alto County and southwest Emmet
County students planning to attend Iowa Lakes
Community College or any other college. Gene’s
love for people and desire to make a difference
in young peoples’ lives was his motivation to
make scholarships available to students in the
area of his residence.
