CHILD
CARE CLUB STUDENTS HOLD FUNDRAISERS TO BENEFIT
ISSUES OF IMPORTANCE TO CHILDREN
Students in the Iowa Lakes Community College
Child Care Club are busy raising money this fall
to benefit three causes.
Club members started the year with an emphasis
on awareness and prevention as part of Breast
Cancer Awareness month in October.
Students are selling pink bracelets for $2 each.
Bracelets are available from any Child Care Club
student. Also, club members placed a large pink
ribbon in the Emmetsburg Cafeteria. Students are
encouraged to place the names of survivors and
others affected by breast cancer directly on the
ribbon.
Additionally, Child Care Club members are making
a display with information about breast cancer
which will be in the case by the Emmetsburg
Campus Business Office.
And, students in the club purchased T-shirts to
show that they support the cause. Students will
wear the shirts each Wednesday in October.
Like many students at the college, Child Care
Club members couldn’t help but notice the
suffering after Hurricane Katrina. Members
stepped into action by taking donations toward
books for children affected by the hurricane.
Each 50-cent donation will buy one book.
Individuals who donate $1, buy two books and
receive a set of Mardi Gras-type beads. And,
those giving a donation may write a personal
note to a child on a bookmark. Books will be
ordered and delivered by the First Book company.
Coming soon will be a fund raiser for the Child
Care Club to help pay for conferences and field
trips to enhance the students’ education about
early childhood education. Students will take
orders for the World’s Finest Chocolates,
offering a variety of chocolates and decorative
novelty items. Orders are expected to arrive
prior to Thanksgiving.
