TRUSTEES
START ‘NEW YEAR’
The Trustees of Iowa Lakes Community College
wrapped up one year and began another at their
monthly meeting held at the Administrative
Offices in Estherville late Tuesday.
Their first step was to accept the election
results from September. That board was then
adjourned by Board of Trustees President Jack
Tatman and the new board was called to order.
That was followed by the oath of office being
administered to three incumbent board members,
Ann Barry of Spencer, Howard ‘Bud’ Kyle of
Milford and Jan Lund of Estherville.
The Trustees then elected officers. John Hand
was elected as the President of the Iowa Lakes
Trustees and Jan Lund was elected to the
position of Vice President. In addition, Clark
Marshall was appointed to serve as secretary,
and, Bob L’Heureux as treasurer.
After other annual routine business, the
Trustees took care of their first order of
business – purchasing board room video
equipment. The digital video cameras and other
equipment, will allow the students in the
Broadcast Media Specialist Program to gain
real-life experience on equipment that is
cutting edge technology. Each month, students in
the program record the meeting, using a multi-plexer
hub which allows them to run a switcher, much
like live television news programs.
The Iowa Lakes report this month featured
student senators. A number of student senators
from Emmetsburg, Estherville and Spirit Lake
spoke with the Trustees about what activities
they have planned at their respective campuses.
In addition, they will participate in a weekend
which will emphasize leadership skills as well
as taking a trip to Des Moines during the
legislative session to meet with lawmakers.
Also during the meeting, the Trustees took
another step toward finding a replacement for
retiring President Mike Hupfer. The Trustees
entered into a consulting agreement with Dr.
Larry Ebbers of Iowa State University. The
Trustees will work with him in establishing
appropriate advertising and candidate selection
timelines.
In other business, the Trustees heard routine
reports from members serving on statewide and
regional boards. The next meeting will be on
Tuesday, Nov. 15 in Estherville.
