IOWA LAKES SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION HOLDS ANNUAL MEETING

The annual meeting of the Iowa Lakes Scholarship Foundation was held on November 1 at the Administration Building of Iowa Lakes Community College in Estherville.

Election of officers was held with Jim Zeigler elected as President, Max Pelzer as Vice President, Karen Moreau as Treasurer and Lynn Miller as Secretary.

The Scholarship Foundation consists of 30 members, including a board of directors of the above officers and Gary Fick, Jan Greig, Mike McCarty and Alan Robinson. The membership along with the board of directors meets annually to administer scholarship funds for Iowa Lakes Community College students.

At present five funds are allocated annually:

H.G. Albee Memorial Scholarship – H.G. Albee, a former resident of the Estherville area, created a trust to be used primarily for academic scholarships at the Estherville Campus.

Gaarde-Hinsch Scholarship – Bertha and Delbert Hinsch of Estherville established the Gaarde-Hinsch endowed scholarship for the benefit of student musicians at Iowa Lakes Community College. The couple’s great love of music inspired them to establish this generous gift which awards numerous music scholarships each year.

Clyde & Grace Sanborn Scholarship – Clyde and Grace Sanborn, former business people in the Estherville area, set up a fund to be used for scholarship purposes. These scholarships benefit graduates of Armstrong-Ringsted, Estherville Lincoln Central, Graettinger, North Kossuth and Terril high schools. These schools are in areas where the Sanborn’s businesses were located.

John & Johanna Thomas Memorial Scholarship – This scholarship was established for a freshmen or sophomore student attending Iowa Lakes Community College with plans upon graduation to transfer to a four-year institution for a degree in engineering.

Stanley O. & Alma Young Scholarship – This scholarship was established for students planning to attend Iowa Lakes Community College. Applicants must demonstrate need and be a resident of Armstrong, Estherville, Gruver or Wallingford. Several up to full tuition awards are presented annually.

Those wishing to apply for or establish scholarships should contact Shan Ray at the Iowa Lakes Community College Institutional Advancement / Foundations Office at 712-362-0491 or 800-242-5106 ext. 491.
