Student senators on the Emmetsburg Campus of Iowa
Lakes Community College will be distributing quilts
this holiday season to those in need.
The college students and the Riverside Club of
Graettinger have partnered for five years on this
cooperative effort that involves the student
senators in ‘service learning’ in this region.
“Our students gain a lot from this type of event,”
said Bill Lapczenski, Student Senate Advisor. “It’s
an opportunity for them to be involved in activities
outside of the classroom setting.”
“The students are especially appreciative for all
the hard work and time involved to put together such
nice quilts,” said Adam Benson, president of the
Emmetsburg Student Senate.
In appreciation of their hard work, the student
senators hosted a luncheon this year for the
Riverside Club.
“I’m pleased that our fellow students want to give
back to their communities,” said Jessie Grossnickle,
vice president of the Emmetsburg Student Senate.
“Volunteerism is something that will hopefully
continue to be a part of our lives for years to
come.”
