MID-YEAR START CONSIDERED FOR MASSAGE THERAPY
PROGRAM
The popularity of the Massage Therapy program at
Iowa Lakes Community College has officials
considering an additional ‘class’ of students
starting in January of 2006.
If enough students express an interest in
starting in January, the college will add the
programs to the offerings at the Spencer Campus
on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, as well as
Saturday mornings. There will also be online
courses for some of the general education
requirements.
“Our students gain a solid foundation of massage
techniques to start their careers as massage
therapists and passing the national licensure
boards for massage therapists,” said Carol
Hartig, program coordinator.
Interest has been high in the program due to the
increased importance in health and wellness,
which are regarded as keys to living a longer,
healthier life.
The 11-month diploma program takes students from
basic to advanced massage techniques. Licensed
massage therapists continue to add to their
techniques and knowledge base throughout their
careers making massage therapy a dynamic field
for the new professional, Hartig said.
Individuals interested in the program are
encouraged to contact Hartig for an appointment
to learn about the application process. She can
be reached at (712) 262-7141 or 1-877-807-9585.
Currently, there are 33 students taking the
Massage Therapy program. The program started at
the Spencer Campus in January of 2004.
