Iowa Lakes Community College has a new Executive Dean of the Estherville Campus. Mary Larscheid, currently Dean of the Spirit Lake Campus of Iowa Lakes, succeeds Mary Mohni, who was promoted to Chief Academic Officer of the college.

“I have thoroughly appreciated the students, staff, faculty, and the Dickinson County community while at the Spirit Lake Campus; they have helped me to grow tremendously,” said Larscheid.  “I am definitely looking forward to my new role at the Estherville campus and with the Estherville community.”

Larscheid has been a long-time employee of Iowa Lakes, starting in 1991 as an adjunct science instructor and then was hired full time three years later.

She taught a variety of biology courses and was one of the first professors at the college to begin teaching online courses. She has also worked with other educational agencies on instructional projects. Prior to coming to Iowa Lakes, Larscheid taught science for grades 6- 9 in the University of Wyoming Lab School while simultaneously training prospective secondary science teachers. She also taught college classes and worked as a consultant for science curriculum and learning centers for the University of Wyoming.

“Mary Larscheid has enjoyed wonderful success as dean of the Spirit Lake Campus and we believe she will enjoy similar success at the Estherville Campus,” said Dr. Mike Hupfer, President of Iowa Lakes.

Larscheid earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Wyoming in biological science. Her master’s degree is in both botany and zoology in natural science. She is currently working on her doctorate in educational leadership in higher education at Iowa State University.

She will assume her new duties Dec. 1.
