2005 IOWA COLLEGIATE ALL-STAR CONCERT BAND
Five Iowa Lakes
Community College students have been selected to participate in
the Collegiate Al-Star Concert Band. Kristie Harson,
Estherville, flute; Holly Davidson, Emmetsburg, alto sax; Tim
Powers, Emmetsburg, tenor sax; Megan Van Schepen, Arnolds Park,
tenor sax; and Billy Hansen, Estherville, euphonium; will
perform in the 12th Annual Iowa Collegiate All-Star Concert Band
held on Nov. 18-19, on the Iowa State University Campus.
The guest conductor this year is Dr. Robert Halseth, Director of
Winds and Professor of Music at Sacramento State University. Dr.
Halseth conducts two bands, teaches graduate and undergraduate
conducting and is the founder and co-clinician of the nationally
recognized Summer Wind Conducting Workshop.
More than 100 guest appearances as a conductor, clinician, and
adjudicator have taken him to 13 states, Guam, Singapore and
Australia, working with ensembles from elementary to
professional levels. He also has spoken or conducted at national
and statewide music conferences. In addition, Dr. Halseth has
appeared as conductor with the California Wind Orchestra,
Stockton Opera and Stockton Concert Band. Since 1995 he has been
the senior band conductor of the Donner Mine Music Camp. This
past spring he spent time observing the band program in Norway.
He belongs to numerous professional memberships and he is a Past
President of the Western Division of the College Band Directors
National Association.
The 100-piece band consists of musicians from Iowa Lakes
Community College and 14 other public, private and community
colleges in Iowa.
The Collegiate All-Star Concert Band will perform in C.Y.
Stephen’s Auditorium at Iowa State University on Saturday, Nov.
19 at 2:30 p.m.
The concert is in conjunction with the Iowa Music Educators
Association Annual Conference.
