IOWA LAKES COMMUNITY COLLEGE
FOUNDATION TO HOST FIRST-EVER SCHOLARSHIP LUAU
For those dreaming of a Hawaiian get away, an
alternative might be to don flower print shirts
and shorts and participate in the first ever
Scholarship “Luau” to benefit students at Iowa
Lakes Community College.
The Luau is planned for Thursday, June 9. It
will consist of a hog roast by Smokin’ Jakes,
karaoke by the Big Nacho and silent auction,
which includes a week’s stay at Kauai, Hawaii.
Prizes will also be given to those who are the
‘best dressed’ in a tropical theme at the Luau
and will be held at the Barefoot Bar on Lake
Okoboji. (In case of inclement weather, the Luau
will take place at Okoboji Boats.)
The social starts at 5 p.m. The first 250 people
at the event will receive a free tropical koozie.
The hog roast will take place from 6:30 – 8 p.m.
that evening.
A brand new Yamaha FX Cruiser Wave Runner will
also be raffled to help raise scholarship money.
Only 250 tickets are being sold at $50 per
ticket. At 9 p.m., the silent auction will close
and the winning wave runner raffle ticket will
be drawn.
Due to the large number of golf outings, Mary
Larscheid, Dean of the Spirit Lake Campus,
developed the idea of a Luau. “We wanted to
involve more people in the county in an event
they could really have fun at and raise
scholarship dollars,” said Mary Larscheid.
All proceeds from the wave runner raffle and
Luau will go toward scholarships for Dickinson
County residents attending the Iowa Lakes
Community College Spirit Lake Campus.
