STUDENTS COMPLETE FOURTH ROUND AT NJCAA
GOLF NATIONALS IN SCOTTSBORO, ALABAMA
The National Junior College Athletic
Association’s Division II golf tourney has
wrapped up in Scottsboro, Ala.
The two Iowa Lakes Community college
students competing in the event ended up in
the bottom half of the scorers, but learned
a lot from the experience, according to
Coach Dan Soper.
Kent Schroeder, Mapleton, shot an 80 in the
final round Friday. Niel Riedemann, Melvin,
shot an 82 for the day. Both young men ended
up with an identical four-day total of 317.
Friday’s weather was outstanding with 80
degrees and winds of 10 miles per hour.
“Both Kent and Niel were not as sharp”
Friday, said Coach Soper. “Kent had a
couple big numbers on the front side but
recovered and played decent on the back
nine. Niel ran into some adversity
throughout his round, but handled it very
well.”
“This has been a great experience for both …
and a good end to a great year for the
Lakers,” Soper added.
Both young men are Arts and Science majors.
They are the 12th and 13th national
qualifiers for the Lakers under Coach Dan
Soper who is finishing his 9th year at Iowa
Lakes.
They will return to Iowa Saturday afternoon.
