LAKER MEN COMPLETE SECOND ROUND AT GOLF NATIONALS

The Iowa Lakes Community College students playing in the National Junior College Athletic Association’s Division II golf tournament in Scottsboro, Ala., continue to stay in the ‘middle of the pack’ following second round action Wednesday.

Niel Riedemann of Melvin improved on his Tuesday score by 3 shots with a 78.

“Niel was pretty consistent all day,” said Coach Dan Soper.  “He stumbled a bit on holes 16 and 17 but made par on 18 to finish his round.”

Kent Schroeder of Mapleton faltered a bit and shot an 85.

“Kent got off to a bad start and didn't really recover,” said Coach Soper.  “Sometimes the battle within yourself is tougher than the course you’re playing.  Today was a good example of that.”

Temperatures were in the mid-70s Wednesday with winds of 10-15 miles per hour.

As of the writing of this release, tee times for Thursday’s third round action were not available, but both young men were expected to tee off in mid-morning.

The NJCAA Men’s Division II Golf Championship is being played at Goose Pond Colony Golf Course in Scottsboro, Ala.  Par is 72 for the course.  Total yardage is 6,926 yards.  Complete results can be found at www.goosepond.org.
