STUDENTS PREPARE FOR GOLF NATIONALS IN
SCOTTSBORO, ALABAMA
Two Iowa Lakes students will head to Alabama
next week to participate in the National Junior
College Athletic Association’s Division II golf
tourney.
Kent Schroeder, an Arts and Science major from
Mapleton, and Niel Riedemann, an Arts and
Science major from Melvin, will take part in the
tourney. They are the 12th and 13th national
qualifiers for the Lakers under Coach Dan Soper
who is in his 9th year at Iowa Lakes.
“These two young men are very deserving of this
honor,” said Coach Soper. “They have been my
number one and number two players all year. They
both have the mental toughness to compete at a
high level on a tough golf course like Hunters
Ridge and realized their goal of making it to
the National Tournament.”
“The pressure is off and they can go down to
Alabama, play a great golf course, enjoy
themselves and have an experience of a life
time,” Soper added.
They advanced to the tourney following regional
play May 8-9 at Hunters Ridge Golf Course at
Marion. Schroeder earned medalist honors with an
even par 144. Riedemann shot a 157 to capture
the fourth of five individual qualifying spots.
Schroeder and Riedemann will represent Iowa
Lakes at the National Junior College Division II
Golf Tournament to be played at Goose Pond
Colony Golf Course in Scottsboro, Ala., May
24-27.
