WORKSHOP TO ENCOURAGE FAMILY
CONVERSATION
When it’s time to talk with children about
difficult topics, many parents are at a loss for
words. Knowing what and how much to say to
children of different ages is a real challenge.
Parents who experience such struggles are
invited to attend the upcoming Family Workshop
in Emmet County, where these skills will be
discussed and taught.
The Tuesday, May 17, workshop at Demoney
Elementary School in Estherville will include
the topic “Talking to Your Children About Sex
and Other Difficult Topics.” Participants in
this workshop will learn skills and gain support
to make this conversation a lot easier.
Presenter will be Karen Miller, RN, Emmet County
Public Health Administrator.
Additional information will be presented on “The
Family Meeting” from the nationally acclaimed
Active Parenting Now curriculum which uses
video, activities and discussion to show ways
parents can raise responsible, cooperative
children who are able to resist negative peer
pressure.
The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for
registration, with the workshop held from 5:45 –
6:45 p.m. A light supper, childcare and a
Hispanic session are available to all
participants at no charge.
This workshop is made available by a grant from
Prevent Child Abuse Iowa and are geared toward
parents (custodial and noncustodial), foster
parents, grandparents, teachers, child care
providers, and other community members
interested in the safety and well-being of
infants, children, pre-teens and teens.
This will be the last in the monthly series of
workshops for the current school year. Those who
would like to be on a mailing list to receive
