TWO IOWA LAKES EMPLOYEES SPEAK AT NATIONAL CONFERENCE

Two Iowa Lakes Community College employees were recently featured speakers at an international conference on disabilities.

Elizabeth Ankeny, Ph.D., save Program Coordinator, and Ann Petersen, Career Orientation Center, addressed the 21st Annual Pacific Rim Conference held in Honolulu, Hawaii.

The educational event brought together self advocates, family members, direct service providers, paraprofessionals, professionals and legislators from more than 35 states and 13 countries to learn the latest information and research in disabilities.

Ankeny and Petersen spoke about the successes that have been achieved in the college’s SAVE program, a partnership of Iowa Lakes AEA 8 and local school districts. Their expenses were paid for by the Colorado State University Exceeding Expections Grant.

Attendance for the 2005 conference was just over 1,000. The conference was hosted by the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
