TWO IOWA LAKES EMPLOYEES
SPEAK AT NATIONAL CONFERENCE
Two
Iowa Lakes Community College employees were
recently featured speakers at an international
conference on disabilities.
Elizabeth Ankeny, Ph.D., save Program Coordinator,
and Ann Petersen, Career Orientation Center,
addressed the 21st Annual Pacific Rim Conference
held in Honolulu, Hawaii.
The
educational event brought together self advocates,
family members, direct service providers,
paraprofessionals, professionals and legislators
from more than 35 states and 13 countries to learn
the latest information and research in
disabilities.
Ankeny
and Petersen spoke about the successes that have
been achieved in the college’s SAVE program, a
partnership of Iowa Lakes AEA 8 and local school
districts. Their expenses were paid for by the
Colorado State University Exceeding Expections
Grant.
Attendance for the 2005 conference was just over
1,000. The conference was hosted by the University
of Hawaii at Manoa.
