THIRD ANNUAL BENCH PRESS CLASSIC PLANNED

Bench pressing enthusiasts will be glad to know that the Third Annual “Northwest Iowa Open Bench Press Classic” is coming up next month.

The event will be held in the gym at the Arthur and Audrey Smith Wellness Center on the Campus of Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg, Saturday, April 2, starting at 10 a.m.

“The competition has really taken off since its beginning and promises the audience a high-powered and explosive event,” said meet director Dennis Goeders.

As in the past, there will be competitors both locally and from across the state of Iowa, ranging in age from 14 years of age up to age 60.

They mean business when on the platform.

“A special guest this year will be Joe Thompson of Fort Dodge,” said Goeders. “Thompson recently competed in Oklahoma City when he set an American and world record. Thompson will weigh in at 210 pounds body weight and will be bench pressing well in excess of 500 pounds.”
