ALGONA STUDENTS ARE NATIONAL WINNERS AT
SKILLS COMPETITION
Two Algona High School students have brought
home a national championship.
Josh Becker and Kelly Teeselink won the National
SkillsUSA Broadcast competition held in Kansas
City last week.
The students were judged on a promotional video
they produced and on a test of broadcast
knowledge.
Josh and Kelly competed against many of the top
broadcast students in the nation, said Bryan
Nelson, Broadcast Media instructor in Algona.
To compete at this level of ability and then
win a national championship is an incredible
accomplishment.
I am very proud of Josh and Kelly. They worked
hard in the broadcast program over the past two
years and what a way to finish their senior
year, Nelson added.
The broadcast program is offered as a dual
credit option at Algona High School. Students
receive college credit from Iowa Lakes Community
College and high school credit from Algona High.
This is the fifth straight year students in the
Algona Broadcast program have qualified for the
national competition. This is their first
national championship.
Becker and Teeselink received a scholarship and
editing software for winning the competition.
