TRUSTEES SET
TUITION AT IOWA LAKES
The Board of Trustees of Iowa Lakes Community
College officially approved tuition and fees for
the 2005-2006 college year at a meeting Tuesday
afternoon in Spencer.
The Trustees moved resident tuition up $7 per
credit hour to $103. Minnesota residents
receive a waiver of non-resident tuition through
a reciprocity agreement. Out of state tuition
and International tuition were set at $105 per
credit hour. In addition, the Trustees adjusted
the fees for the coming college year to reflect
the needs of the individual programs.
“With the generous funding assistance from our
legislators, we were able to reduce our proposed
tuition increase by more than 14 percent,” said
Dr. Mike Hupfer, President of the college.
In other business, the
Trustees officially implemented the second year
of a three-year contract with the college’s
faculty association. It calls for a total
package of 4.75 percent for the coming college
year.
The Iowa Lakes Report featured the Health Care
Administration Program. The long-standing
program is offered on weekends at the Spencer
Campus. It’s designed to prepare individuals
for licensure as nursing home administrators in
Iowa. Many students are adults with previous
work experience. Students in the program shared
their experiences with the Trustees. Concepts
and knowledge gained in the program are applied
to the specifics of health care administration,
including human relations and services,
community resources, financial control, physical
plant and equipment, federal and state
requirements, and other legal considerations.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Trustees
held a public hearing. They approved a capital
loan note not to exceed $1 million. Proceeds
will be used to help support the purchase of a
new, state-of-the-art airplane for the Aviation
Program and help support an upgrading of a
computer network system.
Also during the meeting, they set two public
hearings for next month’s meeting. One is for
improvements to the exterior of the Algona
Campus. The other is for completion of the
second floor of the Technology Education Center
in Emmetsburg.
In other business, the Trustees approved the
list of graduates as presented. And, several
reports were also given by the Trustees.
The next meeting of the Board of Trustees is
scheduled for Tuesday, July 19 in Emmetsburg.
