‘PREPARING THE WAY FOR
COLLEGE’ PIZZA PARTY PLANNED FOR STUDENTS,
PARENTS AND SCHOOL PERSONNEL
Eighth grade students, parents, principals and
guidance counselors are invited to attend a
“Preparing the Way for College” Free Pizza
Party.
The event will be held in Estherville on Jan.
30, from 1 – 4 p.m., at the Student Center on
the Iowa Lakes Campus. On Feb. 6, the event will
be in Emmetsburg from 1 – 4 p.m., at the Arthur
& Audrey Smith Wellness Center on the Iowa Lakes
Emmetsburg Campus.
This is the second year for the event.
“No matter which college they choose to attend,
Iowa Lakes wants to make certain they are
prepared,” said Katie Elbert, Iowa Lakes
Admissions Counselor.
Participants will learn how they can take
college classes while still in high school (dual
enrollment options), what different colleges
require for admission and other valuable
information.
“We want to make sure our youth take advantage
of what Iowa Lakes has to offer while they’re in
high school,” Elbert said.
The schedule of events includes presentations to
help learn about Upward Bound; financial
planning; courses needed to prepare for college;
dual enrollment options; Educational Talent
Search program; and, campus tours.
Free pizza and pop will be provided to all who
are present. Also included in the day’s events
will be a drawing for chances at scholarships to
Iowa Lakes Community College and various college
logo items. Concluding the Emmetsburg event will
be an hour of free swimming.
