ACADEMIC DECATHLON WINNERS ANNOUNCED
Students
from three high schools competed in the Area III
Academic Decathlon Friday at the Emmetsburg
Campus of Iowa Lakes Community College.
Southern
Cal’s ‘A’ Team won the competition; with
Algona’s ‘A’ Team taking second; Algona’s ‘B’
Team placing third; and Spirit Lake claiming
fourth place.
In
addition, the top overall score went to Clay
Hoffman of Southern Cal with 5,188 points.
A total of
four teams competed.
Individuals participated in speech, interview,
music, art, social science, math, economics and
language arts. Thursday evening, the students
participated in team competition of a “Super
Quiz Relay.” The topic was Astronomy.
Once the
statewide scores are tallied, top winners will
advance to the state competition in Denison.
