HUMAN SERVICES PROGRAMS
PRESENTED TO TRUSTEES
The members of the Board of Trustees of Iowa
Lakes Community College were updated on the
Human Services and Disability Studies program at
the college at their meeting Tuesday afternoon.
Instructor and Program Coordinator Amy Ver Mulm
told the Trustees about her goals for the
program as well as a recent field trip to Des
Moines to expose students to potential careers
in the field. The Human Services and Disability
Studies Program is a two-year program at the
Estherville Campus of Iowa Lakes. The program
provides students with a variety of experiences,
which can focus on a number of areas in the
helping professions. Two students spoke about
their aspirations for a career in the field and
how their classroom learning is preparing them
for the future. Students may choose to transfer
to a four-year college or seek employment upon
graduation.
Another item before the Trustees was a change
order on the Technology Education Center under
construction on the Emmetsburg Campus. Action
includes adding a walkway to the rooftop units
to facilitate servicing them. Also, an upgraded
airline and improved water line need to be
installed to operate a motorcycle dynamometer
and a boat dynamometer in the new facility. In
addition, the change order moves the air
compressor to the first floor and adds an
airline to the tool room to operate the tire
changer. The Trustees authorized the change
order for just over $26,500.
Dates were set for two public hearings. A public
hearing on the Fiscal Year 2006 published budget
will be Feb. 15; and, that same afternoon was
designated for a public hearing to amend the
Fiscal Year 2005 budget.
The next meeting of the Board of Trustees will
be Tuesday, Feb. 15.
