IOWA LAKES SOFTBALL SIGNS ARIZONA STANDOUT

Tuesday, January 18th was the NJCAA national signing date for Division II softball and Iowa Lakes Community College Head Softball Coach Mike Bosch has announced the signing of an Arizona infielder to a National Junior College letter of intent. Sylvia Leon, an infielder from Tucson, Ariz., has made Iowa Lakes her future home to play softball.

Leon was an honorable mention Louisville Slugger All-American selection while playing for the Marana Tigers, batting .365 with 12 stolen bases. She was a four time lettermen in softball and was the team’s MVP last season. Leon was also on the Tucson Bandit ASA team which qualified for ASA nationals last season.

Leon is the daughter of Jerry and Monica Leon and intends to pursue a career in broadcasting.

“Sylvia is a special player who brings speed and athleticism to our team,” commented Coach Bosch. “She is a great leader and will bring a number of positive attributes that will greatly improve our team next season. We are thrilled to have her in Laker blue and gold in 2006. I see her making an immediate impact on what should be a very good team next fall.”

Leon joins a Laker program that went 37-22 last season and finished ranked #14 in the final NJCAA poll. For more information on Iowa Lakes softball contact Head Softball Coach Mike Bosch at 712-362-7997 or go to the Iowa Lakes Web site at www.iowalakes.edu
