HELP AVAILABLE TO STUDENTS SEEKING NON-TRADITIONAL CAREERS
Iowa Lakes
Community College has received word they will be able to help
young students interested in pursuing careers that are
considered ‘non-traditional.’
The Iowa Department of Education has approved a plan submitted
by Iowa Lakes to implement a Carl D. Perkins Incentive Grant
focused on increasing recruitment and retention of students
pursuing non-traditional career paths during the spring 2006
term.
Kari Hampe, Secondary Programs Director, will partner with high
school guidance counselors to identify and encourage 9th and
10th grade students to investigate gender non-traditional
careers during Showcase Events which will be piloted on the
Emmetsburg, Estherville and Spencer campuses. Grant funds will
support materials for hands-on activities for a morning event on
the Emmetsburg campus as well as evening events in Estherville
and Spencer. The Estherville and Spencer events will also
feature parent activities and a student panel discussion.
The recruitment plan includes inviting potential students
(gender non-traditional) who have expressed an interest in
attending Iowa Lakes.
