CRIMINAL JUSTICE STUDENTS ASSIST IN DRIVE TO
HELP
PROVIDE CELL PHONES TO SENIOR CITIZENS
Students in the Criminal Justice program at Iowa
Lakes Community College are working with the Emmet
County Sheriff's Department to enhance the safety
of senior citizens by providing them with used
cell phones.
The phones would solely be used by senior citizens
in a project called 'Senior Safe.'
The students will help with the phone collection
as well as the programming and distribution of the
phones. In addition to used cell phones, the
students are asking citizens to donate old
adapters and chargers.
Senior citizens would be allowed to dial 911 free
of charge. There would be no calling plans or
fees involved. In the event of an emergency,
senior citizens have quick access to 911. This
plan will also benefit Law Enforcement and
Fire/Ambulance personnel because there will be
that many more eyes and ears to report emergencies
and/or criminal activity.
Those who wish to make a cell phone, adapter or
charger donation, are asked to drop the items off
at the college's Estherville Campus Business
Office or the Criminal Justice Office.
