COCA-COLA ANNOUNCES SCHOLARSHIP AVAILABLE
FOR STUDENTS ATTENDING TWO-YEAR COLLEGES
Coca-Cola has announced
that the company is currently searching for applicants for its
scholarship.
The Joseph B. Whitehead
Foundation established the scholarship in 1999 for the Coca-Cola
Scholars Foundation to demonstrate their long-standing commitment
to post-secondary education.
Annually, 400
scholarships are awarded in the amount of $1,000 to two-year
college students across the nation who demonstrate extraordinary
leadership and commitment to their community. Iowa Lakes
Community College has had three recipients of the Coca-Cola
Scholarship since 2000.
Eligible applicants:
* Must be one of two
students nominated by a college official;
* Must be citizens of the United States or permanent residents;
* Must have demonstrated academic success (with a minimum grade
point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale);
* Must have completed 100 hours of community service within the
previous 12 months as validated by their college nominator;
* May not be children of Coca-Cola employees; and,
* Must be planning to enroll in at least two courses during the
next
term at a two-year institution.
To be entered into the
national competition, students need to complete the Coca-Cola
application form which may be picked up at the business or
financial aid office of any Iowa Lakes Community College Campus.
The deadline for application is April 15, 2004. The
application must be returned to the Iowa Lakes Community College
Institutional Advancement office which is located in the Iowa
Lakes Community College Administration Building at 19 South 7th
Street, Estherville. Iowa Lakes will then nominate two candidates
and their
names will be forwarded to the Coca-Cola Foundation for the final
award round.
