2ND SCHOLARSHIP POKER RIDE IS JULY 17

Those who enjoy riding motorcycles will want to participate in the upcoming Scholarship Poker Ride planned for Saturday, July 17.

The second annual event takes riders to all of the Iowa Lakes Community College campuses for fun and activities.

The ride begins in Algona where participants will register at 9:30 a.m. with send-off at 10 a.m.  The Algona Campus is located on U.S. Highway 169 about ¼ mile north of the intersection with U.S. Highway 18.

Riders will travel first to Estherville where they’ll get a chance to compete on “three wheels” as they face off to determine who the fastest tricycle rider is.  The Estherville Campus is on S.18th Street, a few blocks south of Iowa Highway 9.

At the Spirit Lake Campus, everyone will get a free Iowa Lakes temporary tattoo and get refreshed with a slice of ice cold watermelon.  In addition, riders will want to take part in the first-ever Guinea “Hog” races.  The Spirit Lake Campus is located at the intersection of Hill Avenue and 21st Street.  Hill Avenue is currently under construction and motorcyclists will need to navigate a short detour.

A quick trip south of town will get riders to the Spencer Campus which is located on the north end of town near the Spencer Post Office.  Collectible pins will be on sale for $5 each.  Prizes will be on display and raffle tickets will be available at Spencer.

Then travelers head east to the Emmetsburg Campus where lunch will be served, contests will be held and door prizes, raffle prizes and poker prizes (totaling more than $2,000 in merchandise and cash) will be distributed.  The Emmetsburg Campus is located north of U.S. Highway 18 shortly after Basswood Park which is next to the bridge on the west side of town.
